Psychological Safety in the Workplace Binnu Palta Hill, Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer, Wisconsin School of Business University of Wisconsin-Madison Psychological safety is a shared belief held by members of a team that it’s ok to take risks, to express ideas and concerns, to speak up with questions, and to admit mistakes – all without fear of negative consequences (HBR, 2023). Research shows that psychological safety is integral to employee well-being, retention, engagement, collaboration and innovation. It is also linked to high performing teams. In this session, we will discuss what psychological safety looks like and how leaders can cultivate it to nurture thriving teams.
